OWLS:

Reedbed and fen

Reedbed and fen

This habitat is waterlogged peaty ground which, in Oxfordshire, is fed by calcium-rich streams or flushes. It can be dominated by such species as common reed but it can also support a range of other species including marsh helleborine.

It is often associated with a mosaic of different habitats, including open water and wet woodland containing willow birch and alder. It has a very local distribution within the county and is mainly associated with the watercourses draining off parts of the Midvale, or Corallian limestone ridge, to the west of Oxford.
