OWLS:

Ancient and/or species-rich hedgerows

Hedgerow by country road

These hedgerows are often associated with the surviving areas of ancient woodland in the county, such as the royal forests of Shotover, Bernwood and Wychwood, as well as parish boundaries.

They support a wider range of tree and shrubby species than the more common enclosure hedgerows, which are dominated by either hawthorn or blackthorn. These species could include spindle, field maple, holly, dogwood and wayfaring tree.
