This site is a small woodland with the typical composition for old traditional woodland. It has an ash canopy with much hazel coppice* in the shrub layer plus areas which are just hazel coppice. Such woodland is a national priority for nature conservation.
Woodland wildflowers found here include early purple orchid, primrose and sanicle. There are also two ponds in the wood as well as springs and a stream.
*Coppicing is a traditional form of management where small multi-stemmed trees and shrubs are cut down to the ground at regular intervals producing a harvest of small branches.
